I have lots of clothes that I had bought but never wear. Partly because I had the tedency in the past to buy clothes that fit just a little too snugly- which I would not be able to wear had I even gain a tiny itsy bitsy weight. When I started gaining weight a few years ago, I kept them away in a huge red bin (that had the design of tong sampah).
My best friend invited me to her sister’s wedding dinner. So last Sunday, I searched through the pile of clothings in the red bin. The reality shock came to me when I could not even fit into some of those blouses and a dress that I had worn to work a few years before.
Even my boss is quite puzzled because she knows that I exercise regularly and that I don’t really eat a lot. I don’t fancy really fattening food such as curries, chao koay teow (unless it is from Penang) and all the super filling rice like nasi kandar, nasi beranii or chicken rice. So why the weight?
In the end, I realised that the culprit all the while… yes, it’s the sugar that I take in food. A cup of teh tarik with my meals, a piece of kuih in the afternoon, a butter bread for breakfast- these are the hidden devils.
So from last Monday, I made a determination to minimize those again from my diet. Moderation is the key…. one can never do something to the extreme. Again I cut back a lot on rice, mee hoon and all the white flour as well as sweetened drinks (except the daily cup of 3-in-1 Nescafe and only once, teh tarik on Friday).
The funny part is that I used to feel that ladies who were taking yong tau foo with kangkung are on the extreme (I mean, they can always take bee hoon with the dish? Don’t they get hungry fast?). But last Friday, I ate just that. And surprisingly, I find that it is actually quite delicious- the vege is crunchy. Also, I left the eating place without feeling sluggish.
So I am back to cutting carbs and sugar again- even though I am not elimating them, I am reducing the intake significantly.
And yesterday, when I was cleaning up my closet, I found a pair of black zipper shorts and decided to try it on. It fits well, and that made me very glad coz I had previously not been able to wear it for the past 3 years 🙂
