Below is the summary of what I practice in this site and most of my other blogs as well:
- I install and use Google Analytics and Console (information collection would be as per practice of Google). But the information are never identifiable of any particular person as it is generalized. Sometimes these information are useful to help me know which posts are popular, etc.
- This site support itself through Google Adsense advertising and Amazon.com. Further disclaimer of the advertising are here.
- Email list subscription for this site is simple, ie still using good old Feedburner. Hence the only information I am able to see is the subscriber’s email address and date of subscription. Each person is free to subscribe and unsubscribe anytime.
- If a person leaves a comment on my site, I am only receiving their name, email address and their comments. Sometimes a visitor would leave his/her personal information eg mobile number and email address which I would mask or remove it altogether before publishing the comment to protect the visitor from being possibly spammed.
- I have a donation page on my site as I have received suggestion from some people to put it up. I have requested that visitors leave me a comment so that I could email to thank them personally.
- I definitely will not sell any personal information of a visitor (example email address) to my site. Years ago someone must have sold my mobile number and email address, resulting spam sms and emails even till this day. So I know how it feels to be on receiving end of spam and I would never do the same to my visitors who trusted me with their information.
That is the real gist of how I operate. I am not into things like email marketing hence I do not collect email and particular and then send separate emails to them.
