Formerly Obese 220lbs woman now runs in marathons

Exercising, Losing Weight, Staying Motivated

Here’s another story that I hope will motivate you to want to exercise. Nothing is impossible- if you are overweight or obese, you can lose your weight- one pound at a time.

This story is originally in a video from NBC and appeared a few months ago. I’ve saved this video in my favourites link for so long. Finally I’ve decided to transcribe the video for those who missed this. You can view the original video here.

christine-before220lbsAt the age of 39, Christine Kam weighed 220 pounds. She made a firm determination to lose weight before her 40th birthday. And she did- within 6months, she had dropped 40 pounds just by watching what she eats. Basically she:

  • ate in moderation
  • ate healthily
  • eliminated fast food
  • very determined and discipled
  • did it all on her own WITHOUT any diet pills

After that, she started incorporating exercise in her lose weight program. She hit the gym 5 days a week doing aerobic exercises and strength training. Her weight continued to drop.

Then, she wanted to venture into marathons- and some people thought it was not a good idea. But the preschool children that she taught inspired her because children, in their innocence, believes that everything is possible.

In 2006, she ran her first marathon and wore pink for a family member who is battling cancer. The most touching moment came as she approached the finishing line and her daughter climbed over the barriers to cheer her own. She held her daughter’s hand.

Christine is now preparing for her third marathon. Her advice- find your passion, find what you want to do.

Calories in ordinary food (and how much of exercise to burn them) Due to some cheap offers going on at a hypermarket from 8am to 10am, I brought mom to do her grocery shopping. While waiting, I decided to do some calorie analysis- something that I had planned for long time. Tip when going shoppi...
