Danger of Eating Too Much Instant Noodles & Correct Way to Cook Them

Digestive Wellness, Processed Food

Over the past years, I have received some forwarded emails from friends about the dangers of instant noodles. Some people may not be aware of the dangers and just to save money or due to no time to cook, they may be slowly poisoning their systems. There is no harm to take precautions. Many kids love to eat instant noodles- so if you are cooking occassionally for your kids, you may want to take note of the correct way to cook instant noodles.

The content below are based on forwarded emails that I’ve received- I am not the original author:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Make sure you break for at least 3 days after one session of instant noodles before you eat your next packet! Please read the info shared to me by a doctor. My family stopped eating instant noodles more than 5 years ago after hearing about the wax coating the noodles – the wax is not just in the Styrofoam containers but it coats the noodles. This is why the instant noodles do not stick to each other when cooking.
If one were to examine the ordinary Chinese yellow noodles in the market, one will notice that, in their uncooked state the noodles are oily. This layer of oil prevents the noodles from sticking together.
Wanton noodles in their uncooked state have been dusted with flour to prevent them sticking together. When the hawker cooks the noodles, notice he cooksthem in hot water and then rinses them in cold water before cooking them in hot water again.. This process is repeated several times before the noodlesare ready to be served. The cooking and rinsing process prevents noodles from sticking together.
The hawker then “lowers the noodles in oil and sauce to prevent the noodles from sticking if they are to be served dry. Cooking instructions for spaghettirequire oil or butter to be added in the water when boiling the spaghetti to prevent the pasta from sticking together. Otherwise, one gets a big clump of spaghetti!
There was an SBC (now TCS) actor some years ago, who at a busy time of his career had no time to cook, resorted to eating instant noodles everyday. He gotcancer later on. His doctor told him about the wax in instant noodles. The doctor to ld him that our body will need up to 2 days to clear the wax. Therewas also an SIA steward who after moving out from his mother’s house into his own house, did not cook but ate instant noodles almost every meal. He hadcancer, and has since died from it.
Nowadays the instant noodles are referred as ” cancer noodles “.
Correct way to eat instant noodle
Dear everyone,
Learn How To Eat Instant Noodle Correct…
Over dinner last nite, I found something new from our friends here on thecorrect way to eat instant noodles without harming our bodies and health.
Normally, how we cook the instant noodles is to put the noodles into a potwith water, throw in the powder and let it cook for 3 mins around and thenready to eat. This is the WRONG method of cooking the instant noodles.
By doing this, when we actually boil the ingredients in the powder,normally with MSG, it will change the molecular structures of the MSGcausing it to be toxic. The other thing that you may or may not realized isthat, the noodles are coated with wax and it will take around 4 to 5 daysfor the body to excrete the wax after you have taken the noodles.
So the CORRECT method, which you may or may not know, is to cook thenoodles this way –
1. boil the noodles in a pot with water.
2. once the noodles is cooked, take out the noodles, and throw away the water which contains wax.
3. boil another pot of water till boiling and put the noodles into the hot boiling water and then shut the fire.
4. only at this stage when the fire is off, and while the water is very hot, put the ingredient with the powder into the water, to make noodle soup.
5. however, if you need dry noodles, take out the noodles n add the ingredient with the powder and toss it to get dry noodles.
Update 4 Oct 2012– I’ve published another post Only You Know What’s Best for You in response to some feedback that I’ve been getting. Friends, it is really up to you- after all, only you know the effects of how it feels after eating the instant noodles.
I only know if I have an exam, important assignment, trip or long day ahead at work, I would not eat instant noodles. Anyway, yesterday evening I got hungry and ate a bowl of cup instant  noodles about 30 min before my aerobic gym class. It was a light dinner. As the class started, I felt I had to struggle with the movement- my body felt unwell. This would not happen if I had eaten other food like normal noodles, bread or biscuits.
As the intense aerobic went on, the increase circulation causes the digesting noodle and its contents to reach almost every corner of my body. I can tell you- I did not feel well. I felt my head tight and my lower limbs heavy. Not feeling well, I slept early yesterday night (in the past I’ve taken things like nutritious drink or a few oranges and I felt absolutely fine).
As I am typing this, I had suffered from running nose the entire day, with flu like symptoms. My throat felt yucky and my body felt weak. I have yet another long working day tomorrow so I will try to get some early rest.
So dear readers, you can take instant noodles, but limit your intake. Only you know what’s best for you– the effects can be felt in your body and it does not lie. Perhaps you are young, energetic and healthy- feeling invincible. But as you get older, the effects would start to come in. I know coz I am not getting younger and my peers feedback the same thing to me too.
Spread the love
    The myth that noodles are coated in wax is just that, a total myth. There is no wax in noodles. The ones that seem oily are coated in… you guessed it! Oil!
    Read about the myth here http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/noodles.asp
      Dear Nalin,
      Thanks for taking the time to research on this and share your findings with us. Plastic containers are indeed quite dangerous.
      But I would like to share the following:
      1. I stayed in Thailand for sometime and many Thais always put hot food in plastic containers and plastic. Even here in my country we do the same as well- it’s not advisable, but folks are still okay.
      2. It’s a real true story shared with me by my friend many years ago- her friend was an air steward in Singapore. Due to busy lifestyle, he never had enough time to eat- so he ate mostly instant noodles. Almost every meal and that is also because he loved the food. And one day, he just died. When I eat instant noodles, I take it out from the plastic packaging and cook them- but my tummy do feel unwell after eating. That was why I publish the story.
      Every site may have differing opinions- I ask of the readers to go with your ‘gut’ feeling. After eating, if you feel unwell, then you know it is not good for you. It does not mean you have to stop eating it altogether- but don’t do it so often.
    If you eat instant noodles everyday OF COURSE you’re going to die! But not from wax, from very poor health. Instant noodles are LOADED with sodium and have no nutritional value whatsoever.
    My dad told me about that wax stuff. It is true, but how if you are gonna cook instant noodles using a microwave?
