The Chinese herb called ‘Snake grass’  is very effective in curing sore throat.  It works better than antibiotics or sore throat lozenges sold in the market. Here’s how the plant looks like:

The leaf above are bigger than usual because we water the plants with lots of natural fertilizers taken from kitchen waste such as leftover Chinese tea leaf, fruits and vegetable peels, dog poo, etc.

Chinese New Year (CNY) is around the corner- this year it will fall on Valentine’s Day (14 February 2010).

Usually Mandarin oranges or “kam” are available during this Chinese New Year session- during other times of the year, only the smaller versions are sold. For the Chinese, “kam” has the same pronounciation as gold in Cantonese. As such, the mandarin oranges will be placed all over the home and exchanged between the guest and host. Because during festive session gatherings will tend to sit around and chat, with the Chinese cable TV in the background, most people will conveniently reach for the mandarin orange.

Is it just me or do you also notice that a number of people around you seemed to be down with flu, fever, cough or sore throat? Perhaps someone you know had just caught a chill and is down and out for about a week.

You may resort to taking a course of antibiotics or popping some aspirin and getting some good sleep. What happens in this fast paced world where we cannot afford to slow down and to be missing in action? And the quick kills of taking antibiotics and pill popping does not seems to work?

There is a traditional housewife remedy that is known to be especially useful to relieve chills. But first, before you try it, get yourself checked to rule out H1N1 virus, or dengue fever, okie?

Method:

Letting the steam from a pot of  boiled herbs permeates your entire body- with yourself fully covered up in a blanket. The principal behind it is for your to inhale the steam from the ingredients that will help you to clear up your lungs and sinus block. And also to make you sweat to cool down your body and get the toxins out.

How to do it:

If you find yourself suffering from one or more problems IN COMBINATION WITH TOOTHACHE/ TOOTH DISCOMFORT:

  • sinus outbreak
  • ear pain
  • headache
  • sore throat
  • red eyes

The possible cause:

Could be your tooth. Instead of going to see an ENT specialist, you may want to consult a dentist to have your teeth checked for infection. If the cause comes from your teeth, all the problem will go off immediately (almost like magic) after the dentist treat the affected tooth with cleaning and applying medicine to kill off the bacteria, followed by filling. The dentist may also put you on a round of antibiotics just to make sure.
